Hygiene - the deep clean

For healthy teeth and gums, at evergreen we recommend hygiene treatments to our patients. Why? Because even the best brushing and flossing routines can’t totally eliminate all traces of plaque – food remnants that house bacteria. Trapped plaque hardens, becoming tartar, which sticks firmly to teeth, especially in hard-to-brush areas between and behind teeth, and where the gum overlaps the tooth. Left on your teeth, plaque and tartar are the prime causes of tooth decay and gum disease. They can also cause bad breath.

At evergreen we carefully examine every tooth for plaque and tartar build-up, removing them when found. This helps prevent the onset of gum disease, and leaves your mouth feeling sparkling clean.

As well as cleaning your teeth to remove plaque, tartar and bacterial toxins, we’ll give you advice on how to keep your mouth healthy. Hygiene treatments are an important part of an oral health programme, and helps preserve your teeth and gums.

White Fillings

Despite all your twice daily dental care, things still – sometimes – go wrong. At evergreen we’re dedicated to maintaining, repairing and restoring your teeth in a relaxed, pain-free way.

Primary treatment is a filling – we match filling colours to your teeth. Nowadays, a filling is not something to fear – advances in local anaesthetics and high tech dental materials and equipment make it a much easier process than it once was, even when extra work is needed, like treatment of the root canal.

Inlays / Onlays

We also provide inlays –these are replacement biting surfaces on your teeth. With use, teeth gradually wear down. Sometimes they reach the point where biting and chewing becomes inefficient. At evergreen, we use colour-matched porcelain or composite inlays to build up those biting and chewing surfaces, restoring full-function to your teeth.

Inlays and onlays are two types of restorations that your dentist can suggest if you have a cavity in your tooth that needs to be filled. An inlay is a small filling that fits into the biting surface of a tooth while an onlay covers a larger area of the tooth and is better suited to bigger cavities. For many years, gold has been used to make inlays and onlays because it is a hard material and lasts for a long time. Nowadays, tooth-coloured porcelain is also used and gives the restored tooth a more natural look, which many patients prefer.

Inlays and onlays can be made in a dental laboratory by a technician, with the help of impressions taken of your teeth. While these are being made, you will wear a temporary filling. When your inlay or onlay is ready your dentist will glue it into place using a special adhesive, after removing the temporary filling.
